"A designer knows he has achieved perfection, not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away."Ah, Civilization IV, how I adore you so.
More observant visitors will have noticed I finally updated the site's layout. In place of Flash and tables are gratuitous CSS and divs. Here are some details on the new layout:
- Removal of Flash
A simple decision, since Flash is a resource-guzzling-processor-intensive hog which is slowly being replaced by HTML5. Furthermore, it is hard to maintain and requires off-site hosting. - @media handheld
The rise of web-enabled mobile devices, spearheaded by a certain fruit-dealing technology company, has greatly increased the proportion of web addicts with tiny resolutions. A separate stylesheet caters to mobile devices with tiny, puny screens. - Monochromatic Colour Scheme
I was getting sick of all that pastel blue. Content is brought to the fore by a white background for posts, in contrast to the slightly-darker grey background for pages. The drop shadow also "pops" posts above the page to draw attention. Unimportant external links are kept below posts where seasoned web savants will certainly expect them to be. The archives link is bolded and underlined to clearly indicate that it is a clickable link. - A Nagging Detail
Classic Blogger does not allow for numbered page navigation without high-level JavaScript wizardry. The archives links could certainly be improved, but this is a limitation of Classic Blogger. I really should migrate to another service. - Things Left Mostly Untouched
The page title "The Gallery of Foolish Thoughts" is in Bevan, a font available from Google Font Directory. It replaces Courier New in Cryllic in the obsolete Flash header. Text selection colour is left unchanged, and is achieved through CSS attributes -moz-selection and -selection.
